Cote d’Ivoire to Host Africa Regional Office of Green Climate Fund
The decision came after a GCF meeting held in Incheon, South Korea, from Wednesday to Saturday. Officials noted that the choice reflects Cote d’Ivoire’s economic vitality and its commitment to addressing climate change, highlighting the country’s growing influence in Africa’s climate action efforts.
The regional office in Abidjan will help improve coordination of GCF projects, provide enhanced technical support to member countries, and facilitate access to climate financing. Authorities expect the establishment of the office to create jobs and foster local expertise in climate finance.
The GCF’s presence in Cote d’Ivoire will support initiatives in areas such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, natural resource management, and climate resilience. The Ivorian government has reiterated its intention to take a leading role in implementing and coordinating climate policies across the African continent.
